Apple iPod

The generic name iPod refers to a class of portable digital audio players, designed and marketed by Apple Computers. The Apple iPod family devices offer simple user interface with a central scroll wheel.

Apple’s Hardware engineering chief Jon Rubinstein assembled a team of engineers to design the first iPod. Tony Fadell and Michael Dhuey were the principal engineers. The standard Apple iPod stores media on a built in hard drive. The smaller versions use flash memory. The iPod can serve as an external storage device when connected to a computer. Different versions of the iPod include two generations of the ipod mini and four generations of the full-sized iPod.

All of them have monochrome screen except the fourth generation iPod that has a color screen. The fifth generation iPods such as iPod nano and iPod shuffle have video playback capabilities. It features bundled software which helps upload photos, music and videos to the iPod. This is collectively called iTunes.

The Apple iPods are one of the world’s most popular brands of MP3 players. They can be purchased online in a variety of versions.
